Seam Rippers is a 50-page magazine that served as my senior capstone project at DePaul University. For the last two quarters of senior year, all graphic design majors at DePaul are required to create and develop their own capstone project. Fashion has always been a big source of inspiration for me, so I decided to make my capstone project a magazine that highlighted individuals who have changed the male fashion industry for the better by expressing themselves and breaking traditional gender norms.
Seam Rippers is based on a typical, traditional fashion magazine, but with a heavy emphasis on experimental design so that the pages themselves feel as if they are breaking boundaries, while also expressing the aesthetic of the individual being showcased in that section. Going from the 70's to current day, the magazine also serves as a timeline of how men's fashion has evolved over time.
After six months of development, the project was completed and showcased at the Epiphany Center for the Arts in West Loop, Chicago. The showcase featured five printed versions of the magazine along with large posters to highlight certain parts of the project.
Seam Rippers was a ton of work, but overall I think it has been my most rewarding and also expressive piece of art to date. You can view the full magazine in PDF format below!
